According to recent media reports, Tesla is developing a simplified Model Y variant specifically for China — the world’s largest market for best-selling electric cars. Led by its Chinese team, the new model retains existing battery, powertrain, and chassis configurations to accelerate production, while trimming non-essential features. The strategy aims to counter intensifying competition from local EV brands dominating sales charts, though Tesla China has yet to officially confirm the plan.
